Since I'm assuming it's ME that Fish tagged and not the phantom christinek… heee!
The book meme )

Incidentally, this brings to mind the shopping trip to Borders the other week. I was there for a baby shower gift, since it was requested that all guests bring a book or two for baby's bookshelf (Isn't that an *awesome* idea? I loved it!) Anyhow, I walked into the kid section and proceeded to take over two hours picking out just two books. (A Shel Silverstien and Moo, Laa, Baa) Because I? Have too many favorites from childhood. And my kid (if I ever manage to have one) is going to own more books than me. I wanted to get *everything.* So many beloved children's books!

Seven Seasons of Buffy: Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Discuss Their Favorite Television Show

With contributions by Jennifer Crusie!!!

I perhaps have gone round the bend. This is what boredom and screwy AIM does to a person. *g*

I got a package in the mail from [info]yanatya which included a copy of Who Wants to Marry a Heartthrob? She wasn't kidding about the 'spot the J/D references.' I'd found several dozen by the time I hit page 50. Still... it was utterly delightful and fun and I'd rec it to anyone who wants a fun, easy read.

(I still don't think Dee can match up to Jennifer Crusie, though. Crusie beats all. :))

I miss the West Wing. Not the WW of now, but the WW gone by. :(

I was in Borders yesterday (looked at tons I wanted but bought nothing. Go me in saving money! But who would like to remind me who the author of Shopaholic is? I wanted to look her up and forgot her name.)

Anyhow... there was this book about which television shows influence authors and someone (a Britsh author I *Know* but can't remember now! My memory is totally sucking) wrote about how inspiring WW was. ::Sigh:: I wish it still was.

[On a little side note, he kept referring to Bartlet as Jeb and saying how he wished he could go out for beers with Toby and Josh. ;)]

I heart Diane Ackerman. I've read several of her books in the past (A Natural History of the Senses, Cultivating Delight) and am always captivated by her prose. There such startling imagery with the flow of the words and the way she writes. Anyways, I started An Alchemy of Mind today and have to say that I'm enjoying this one just as much as the previous ones.

And since I'm talking about books...

The President's Daughter. I liked it. A lot. Not quite as much as I did The Road Home, but I think I know why. First, because when I read TRH, E.E. White was still new to me as an author. And second, because I knew the outcome of TPD, from all your chatter and from the fact that it has multiple sequals. Still... I'm anxious to go get the rest. I'm fascinated by the relationship between Meg and her mom and I really would like to read more about Preston. hee!

And because I keep picturing Lu in the role of Beth. And that makes me giggle.

I'm such a geek sometimes. *g*

So Rebecca has just landed back in THE WORLD. And I am anxious to find out how that goes. Because I am just *that much* into this book. And am now extremely excited with the prospect of reading that other EEW series.

(Why don't I ever learn and just snap up the authors Em recs as soon as she mentions them? *g*)

But while I was reading, I kept thinking - this is YA? With the exception of The Princess Diaries (which is total inane fluff, despite being an enjoyable read), it seems as if these books I've been reading are a lot more adult and intelligent than most YA's. Or maybe I'm just appreciating them with a more mature outlook? I don't know. But I thought I'd throw that out there.

I think I must be the slowest person on earth sometimes. Two people in my office quit this week and I didn't even know it. I thought they were on vacation!

So I was reading my SEP novel last night (ALL of last night! I was up until two!) and the heroine talks about the children's series book Daphne the Bunny. Now I know I've seen this referenced somewhere else (Anyone else? Just me? Ok) and it's bothering me because I can't figure out where or why. Help!

ETA: Because sometimes a little web browsing should be done before posting. And because SEP used *her own creation* of Daphne the Bunny from another novel and plunked it down into this one.

And have I mentioned recently how much I love [info]yanatya? Because I do. She sent me the link to this great book site this morning. And I love this idea SO much. Most of my books are all nicely domesticated and I think it would be hard to nudge them from their shelves, but there are a few... I think I would feel better about sending them out into the wild this way. *g*

What's up with LJ not allowing commenting right now? Every time I come here lately, there's a problem.

Anyhoo... I went to the library last night and got a new Susan Elizabeth Philips and a new book by Caren Lisner (who wrote Carrie Pilby, which I *loved*.) And while this is all good and well, I realized that I will be moving in a few months. Which means I will be leaving my wonderful cooperative library system. Which means I really should be working on reducing my massive "to read" list while I still have borrowing privileges at over a dozen libraries. Because once I move, I'll be stuck with the selection of only one library or will have to buy the books from B&N (which might get a tad expensive.) A girl has to have her priorities.

And since I'm talking about books... I wanted to get out an EE White book, since y'all have been raving about her. But the only one my library had was the last book in a series about a girl named Rebecca. Now I'm all for trying a series *other* than the great President's one you've all mentioned, but you can't read the *last* book *first*. You just can't. So now EE White's on the massive "to read" list too. ::sigh::

The re-reading (or reading for the first time) of the classics and all the books on my list continues...

Wicked - I finally finished it. Poor Elphie! The girl just wants to be loved and to be able to stick to her beliefs and look what happens to her! I wanted to give her a hug the whole damn time I was reading. And the way so many of the basics were twisted and rearranged had me grinning.

I'm thankful that I read Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister *before* I read this though. Because Comfessions wasn't nearly as compelling or interesting. And I didn't feel for the characters quite the same way as I did for these.

The Princess Diaries - Yes, I have continued falling in love with Meg Cabot and breezed through this over the weekend. Just as good as the movie, but a lot different. I can't quite figure out why so much of it was changed. Ok, maybe I get why they killed Dad off, but why change the locale from NY to SF? Why change the whole Josh thing and the whole Cultural Diversity thing? But then again, I'm not a movie mogul so who knows?

Now I'm all ready for Beloved. I'm a little concerned that this is yet another YA book though. Not that I didn't adore re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird and not that I didn't giggle myself silly over Diaries but it's a bit disconcerting that I've been reading books aimed at thirteen year olds. Where's the grown up stuff? And no, I don't mean smut!
